On a beautiful sunday morning at Whitehill the boys came up against high flying Droylsden. Having won their last 7 games the away team came expecting to win. Ged and myself had a good long chat with the lads before the game telling them to play the fast attacking football that they had been doing over the last few weeks. We told them half chances had to be taken for us to beat a team as good as Droylsden.
Straight from the off the boys were right at Droylsden giving them no time on the ball. Droylsden had played Vulcans A the day before and the 2 games in 2 days were showing early on. Early chance fell to Wes and from ten yards he smashes the post. This would be the story of the day, the Blues making lots of chances and not taking them. The possession was equal all the game but Droylsden never seemed to trouble the strong back 3 of Luke, Liam and Shane. With the mid field 3 of Simon, Ryan and Cian pulling the strings in the center chance after chance came and went. The boys used the wings very well today playing in Reece and Elliott and every avalible chance and both of the lads doing their jobs excellently, beating the man and getting the crosses in. With 5 minutes left in the first half Droylsden had their 1st really chance and it took a great save from Zak to keep the scores level at the break.
The chat was the same as usual keep playing the football and the goals would come.
At the start of the 2nd half the pattern was much of the same us making the chances but with us not taking them. A corner from the right was threw over from Simon and James rose and head towards goal (a yard eirther way and it was 1-0) straight at the keeper who did well to keep hold. Another corner from Simon and this time James connects with his left foot only to see it smash the bar and come down on the line (could of been over). Its all the Blues now Elliott goes on 1 of his mazey runs beating a couple of lads and hits a screamer from the corner of the area GOAL no it hits the upright and goes for a goal kick. Chance after chance comes and goes and still the scores stay level, a slack clearance from the keeper and Cian volleys it back over his head only for it to drift wide of the post. A great run from Reece sees him beat 2 men and slot it passed the keeper, the crowd go wild only for 1 of the defenders to hook off the line and out for a throwing. With time running out 0-0 looked the likely outcome, but then it happened Droylsden attacked down the left and the only time the left winger got away from Liam all morning and he hit a wonder goal. He must of been 30 yards out but he stuck it beautiful over the advancing Zak and GOAL in off the back post. 1-0 with 2 mins to go. To say the boys were gutted was a understatement but fair play to them, from the k-o we went straight forward and created another chance but guess what yes again we missed it. With the Blues now pushing forword gaps appeared at the back and they had 2 more chances but Zak made 2 wonder saves to keep us in it and even injuried himself with the last but refused to come off. With a last throw of the dice I threw Andy on and deep into added time it happen (3 minutes into injury) A corner by Simon caused havoc in the area and Andy struck 1 and their defender handle it on the line, the ball hit the net GOAL. No the ref awarded a penalty and sent the young lad off (very harsh as there was only seconds left). Cometh the hour cometh the man, who would take the responsabily for the biggest moment of the game. Never needed to doubt it, up stepped my Captain Marvel Ryan Oldham cool as you like to slot home and send the home fans wild. The ref blew and full time 1-1. If the boys had lost this 1 they would of struggled to take this, we hit the woodwork 3 times and had 3 cleared off the line and on another day we could of had 5 or 6. All I can do is first say well done to Droyslden not many teams would take on the mighty Vulcans A 1 day then play in the league the next. Saturdays pitch must of been heavy but ours was ok. At times they looked tired and the Blues tooked advantage of this but not enough to take all the points. Well done Droylsden the league need more teams like this willing to play and not let the fixtures mount up. The MOM today were the hardest that we had to pick because all the boys were excellent but the 2 boys that got them were Shane Sinclair for a faultless display in defence and the other to Zak Smith didnt have much to do in the nets but when we needed him at 1-0 down 2 great saves to give us a chance. Special mentions also for Luke Core again brillant in defence and also to Simon Robinshaw for his best game so far this season and for bossing the mid-field. And also Ryan Oldham week after week he does it but today awesome in there with Cian and Simon but also for having the shoulders of a man and taking the penatly. When his team needed him the most he wore his heart on his sleeve and lead from the front, hate to compare him to this guy being a blue but just like Bryan Robson well done son.Well done all.

Play Moor Celtic from division 3 in the metro cup, got off to a shock start going 2-0 down by half time. But after a very strong team talk from myself they finally sealed a very gallant victory with 5 goals from C.Oliver and 2 from J Martin 1 from the penalty spot with the last being an own goal. The MOM award this week was a double one going to C.Oliver and C>Hasircioglu.
